The secret to raising active kids.. is to be an active parent.
If we tell our kids to be more active then we need to lead by example. Are you active? Do you get out and play with your kids? Do you lead by example?
There are many ways to show your kids or grandkids how to exercise and that needs to start by finding yourself an exercise program or routine. That can be joining a gym, finding a running group, or even registering for a local recreational league sports team.
Maybe you were more active in the past but now you have injuries, have aged a bit, or just don’t have the time for yourself to do activity. Finding your activity is key but maybe involving your kids or grandkids is the answer. An after dinner family walk, scheduling play dates with other parents and their children, or even enjoying a local venue such as the zoo or a nature trail would be great ways to get outside and be active with your kids.
Children learn through imitation and copy your behavior. So it is time to get outside, exercise, and show your kids just how fun it is to be an active adult.
