Jumping for Joy
Do you remember how much fun it was to jump when you were a kid? Whether it
was jumping rope, splashing in mud puddles, bouncing on a trampoline, or even
hopscotch. Jumping as a kid was so much fun!
Jumping brings so much joy to a kid's life and here are 5 amazing ways that this
simple movement brings so many health benefits to our kids.
1. Coordination
Jumping involves so many functions of the human body - the combined
actions of jumping, maintaining balance, and concentration improves the
brain function of coordination. Maintaining coordination and balance as we
age is key so why not start out at a young age to build this healthy habit.
2. Cardiovascular Exercise
Heart health is extra important while a child is growing and this large
muscle is developing. Jumping is an amazing cardiovascular workout – it
increases the heart rate, strengthens the heart muscle and blood vessels,
and improves blood flow throughout the body.
3. Increased flexibility
Lengthening the muscles as we grow taller is key to preventing injury and
protecting your joints. Jumping, moving, and bounding causes us to
contract and extend our muscles which results in increased flexibility.
4. Enhances motor skills
Jumping requires continuous motor planning and sequencing which allows
us to plan and execute our movements. Kids start to turn on their motor
skills by evaluating their jumping distance, height, and how to return to the
surface safely.
5. Promotes Vitamin D absorption
All kids need vitamin D to absorb calcium and strengthen their immune systems.
The sun is an amazing source of vitamin D that can help strengthen bones and
prevent disease and a trampoline is a great incentive to keep kids playing
outdoors.
Promoting jumping, bounding, and hopping not only brings joy to your child’s life… it's an amazing way to live a healthier lifestyle.
